I think you've been drinking a bit too much o' the Buckie there. It's actually imported into Scotland. If you don't believe me then have a look at this...

GET A LIFE!!!

VTA I have never had the priveledge of meeting you, I don't know where you live, Vancouver I pressume. Possibly earning big bucks, and good on you. Me, I'm just on ordinary guy, I don't drink at all, bad image tae present as a Scots man, I would dearly love to be able to fly around the world first class, following Scotland, and live in top hotels, there are others of the same mind, but it is a bit like the widows mite, the more money you posses the less the sacrifice to follow your national team, or local team.
The more you earn the softer the blow on your bank balance and the easier to keep up with your domestic bills, mortgage etc. but the Scot that is in a poorly paid job and sacrifices a lot to be able to follow Scotland on a shoestring budget, is higher in my esteem, as he or she are doing without in other areas, to be able to travel by the cheapest means, live in digs that are one step up from being homeless, they may not all be dressed like models out of a kilt hire shop window, but they wear their tartan on their hearts, I may be able to get to Germany now, I dearly hope I can, you will recognise me by my stupid t-shirt with a daft name on the back, please feel free to approach me and tell me, I am not fit to be following the country that is was born in, brought up in, still live in and will probabley die in, I have not got the ex-pat shortbread tin mentality.
I live in the really of, times are hard for some people in Scotland, and the younger generation following in the footsteps are the future of the T.A. they need led by people willing to advice them, not ridicule them.
I respect your opinion, though I do not agree with most of it, as for engerlander birds is it not better our lads enjoy the spoils of war, rather than the girls stayed with their whimpy own, I think that in some areas of your posts you are downright offensive to T.A. members, you seem to desire an elitest group. W.A.S.P.'s White and Scottish Protestants, as the credentials for access to the super race.
We are all Scottish, we are all entitled to travel by whatever means we can, and dress in whatever way we wish, as long as our behaviour is not offensive or abusive; to the natives of the countries we visit.
We should be ambassadors by our actions, not by our dress code.

that hurts! (i love this board its part of my life)

I'm sorry to say it but that's partly the problem Jimbers. There's so many people now who regard this board "as a part of their life" that it's become a minefield of utter pish.

If I'm not mistaken it started out as a focal point for information sharing and gathering. Now's it seems to be a focal point for dozens of pre-pubescent nerds who do nothing but continually raise topics that no-one is remotely interested in. The upshot is all the interesting info/stories/anecdotes that used to be gleaned from the board are now lost to the world because they quickly get overtaken by tosh like "Does anyone have any tips on how to remove fatty stains?" or "Has anyone else tried the new upside-down tomato sauce bottles?".  People obviously just spout such pish – and worse still, reply to it - in order to gain those stupid dots. It’s contemptible.

Such mundane nonsense has no place on a board that was established to enable genuine TA folk to share stories, suggest travel itineraries, arrange meeting points, discuss decent digs, etc. From what I've heard the result of all these potty posts is that many long-serving TA members - who used to grace this board with their very welcome presence and contribute some highly amusing nuggets of information - no longer log on simply because they can’t be arsed trawling through all the shite. And who can blame them?

However, you will all be delighted to hear I have a very simple, albeit controversial, solution. A second board should be set-up for people who do watch Scotland abroad regularly. To gain access to it you have to have attended at least three away games in the past two years (and comply with a number of other conditions I haven’t thought up yet). The rest of you can stay here where you are welcome to continue that long-running debate on what is the most effective way to button up a blouse (see any other business - circa April 2003).

The kind people
Have a wonderful dream
Tartan Army Board On The Guillotine
Cause people like you
Make me feel so tired
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
When will you die ?

And people like you
Make me feel so old inside
Please die

And kind people
Do not shelter this dream
Make it real
Make the dream real
Make the dream real

A very interesting point you have made Aitchy. This is the first time on the board for a number of weeks now and to be honest when you look through all of the nonsense it is becoming a tedious and time consuming process looking at the posts, I wonder why I bothered. I must admit that I have now become a curtain twitcher as I feel the TAMB has become a victim of it's own success and is no longer the same place as it was a couple of years ago.

Before any of the more habitual users get round to saying "well you don't have to post blah blah blah" I will take the opportunity to tell you I have already made the decision and will refrain from posting forthwith.

I bid you all farewell.

What I find strangly curious is that there seems to be an extremely large number of people complaining about that state of the board and in many cases the solution chosen is to stop posting.

Now if so many people think the board is cr@p should it not be possible to do something about about it by posting the things you want and think are lacking rather than moan and walk away.

I had a right old moan a while back and accept its not possible for one or two people to make a difference but if the number of people who have been moaning all starting posting again, it should.

BTW it has to be said folk have always moaned about the state of the board so maybe Jam is right and we should stop moaning for the sake of it.

And there we have it - in a nutshell.

Far be it from me to criticise Bzzz - I don't think I've met you, though as far as I can gather you are no TA neophyte - but you have posted over 5000 times. Maybe it's people like you who should be condemned to the aforementioned guillotine!

It's all very well saying ignore the pish. Of course people will ignore what they're not interested in. That goes without saying. But it takes at least an hour to trawl through what’s to be ignored and what's worth looking at. And, of course, therein lies the problem. I - and I’m not alone here - am no longer willing to spend half my day filtering through pish. And those who are, well, I pity you.

Before you say it, I have considered just not posting (or even logging on) again, but occasionally this board can still be a valuable resource. I wanted advice on a pre-Germany Baltic states tour and got a great deal of help from the likes of Buckfast Warrior, Jam and KennyfaeVilnius. Thankfully I’d started the thread so I knew where to look but when you go into AoB, General or even the Germany section it’s generally just full of utter drivel. Boring, monotonous, tedious, drivel. And if there is something interesting it takes too long to find, meaning people with interesting things to say, such as Big Mick no doubt, get fed-up and stop posting…and so the cycle goes on.

That was the last post I will ever make…..
No I’ve changed my mind again……
Goodnight and Thank-you.

I think a good rule of thumb is to look at who started the thread as a first  port of call...

And maybe for good measure I should join Bzzzz at the gallows (preferable to the guillotine as it makes less mess)...:criesofyippeeringfarandwide:

Which would mean having to learn which of the 3500 members are interesting and which are boring, tedious, monotonous plebs. I'd be quicker trawling through all the posts.

Maybe Mick's right. Maybe it has become a victim of its own success. Maybe VTA's right. Maybe it should be one in, one out (or even fifty out)!

Aitchy,

3500 is a slight, in fact huge exaggeration.....

Only suggested as a gauge. Good starting point.......????

To dump 50 you need to know the numpties....

Anyway, as i said i understand where you are coming from but not where you are going.....

Aitchy - as far as I can see, by and large the place where pish is posted is Any Other Business (don't know about the Germany forum as I'm a part-timer). I know it's said time and time again but if you're only looking for info. on travel, speculation on the team, recollections of Tartan Army experiences; then is it not possible to stay out of Any Other Business? Because that's where all the tomato ketchup bottle and greasy stain threads are - and it's not where Tartan Army related posts are made. The only other pish which many people might not be interested in are the threads about this actual board, about how it's going downhill (I'm surprised we've not reached the centre of the earth yet as this board is always apparently going downhill), and posts about TAMB personalities. I don't see how you have problems, for example, finding information on a specific trip (if the info. is actually there) since there's a separate forum for each game.

Maybe all these people who are becoming disillusioned with the board should just post some more of the stuff that it is they want on the board. General doesn't really tend to get clogged up, it's only really AOB and stuff is usually clearly titled so you don't have to enter every thread.

I am a great believer in ridding the board of pish but VTA's posts are absolute classics that have had me pishin masel out loud. How could anybody have taken them seriously. Shame on you HR. They were Garnetesque masterpieces. I've always been a believer in the fact if something is funny its funny regardless of the content. I'm sure if I was gay, wore a turban, dressed poorly, stayed in pishy accomadation etc etc I'd still have pished masel at his posts.
Quality humorous additions to the board which are welcome anytime IMO.
