Opinionated Wind Bag

Record "exclusive". Scotland are set to announce a new multi-million pound strip deal with Diadora.
Puma, TFG and Xara were also in the running.

Tell me this is a wind up! That Rangers strip has got to be one of the worst tops ever. Do they make the strips for any other team? I thought we had to be looking at Adidas, Puma or even Nike. I couldn't see the SFA going back to Umbro as that would almost be an admission that they should never have left in the first place but blo*dy Diadora. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!

Something to say

It is my understanding that Rangerds make their own strips and Diadora just buy the space on the shirt so they are just like NTL as one of their shirt sponsers

Was it not Umbro who dumped Scotland rather than the other way around? If I remember rightly, wasn't it because they'd made an arse of the Celtic strip that year and had to go back and redo them all, and they were the more important customer? I might be wrong tho...

Think Diadora make the Aston Villa strip which is alright as strips go. Would have prefered Puma though.
Just glad it isnt Xara or TFG.

Is there any truth in the rumour they are going to do with the Scotland strip what they did with that Alaves strip for the UEFA cup final two years ago, in that they are going to weave into the strip all the names of STC members?

I think this rumour has been exaggerated. †I heard that there is only so much room on the strip, so Diadora have asked ATAC clubs for names of their members, who will go on in background. †

Unfortunately not enough room for non-ATAC supporters, but I suppose it's a good start.

All i can say to this news is a resounding BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I hope they don't try and fob us off with a bloody 'tangerine' away kit either!

I had my heart set on a lovely Scotland shirt with 3 white Adidas stripes running down the arm!

Never mind footsoldier - you'd probably have forgotten to apply to have your name included anyway...

I disagree about not-enough room by the way. Maybe not enough room on the player kits, but plenty of room on the TA XXXL replica shirts.

No to happy about this myself...

But got to say, Diadora made a cracker of a tracky for Rangers this season, and the "Tangerine" top was a tidy looking top tae (design wise)

I'm surprised adidas arn't in there. but the SFA are too busy looking at the money they'll get from the supplier. but you need to look at sales, the strip isnae gonnae sell unless its Adidas, Umbro or Nike!
I know it sounds rough, but I'm a young lad and see it all.

The umbro strips sold pretty well. I think most folk would buy a decent strip irrespective of the manufacturer.

I don't see this big thing about addidas or nike. They take one design & everybody gets it. Just imagine the Brazil kit in navy blue, that's what we'd get.... Might be awrite tho, but I'd rather have a new design masel.

Talks too much

Diadora have no say in what the Rangers shirts are like.....all they are is a sponcer, so they can make more money.
They make most the kits in Italy I think....and I heard somewhere that the national team ditched Kappa for Diadora (not sure how true that story is....but I know Italy have a new shirt deal with someone new)

Talks too much

Addidas or Nike were never likely to want to make Scotlands top-why would they want to be associated with a side ranked 63rd in the world?!

Neither do Scotland have any star players of world renown which doesn't help.  Addidas or Nike are hardly likely to want Kevin Kyle or Paul Devlin to star in an advert or for that matter to be seen in their kit.  You rarely qualify for big tournaments and when you do you crash out before the second stage and your style of play is more Rushden & Diamonds than Real Madrid!

That said,if I was a Scotland fan I wouldn't want to have my kit made by Addidas or Nike as someone mentioned earlier due to them only one style of kit which is then changed to the relevant colour.  A load of bollocks in my opinion as you lose any identity by virtue of the shirts being the same as your opponent!

The truth is Scotland as a footballing brand needs an overhaul at the moment as it is not a very attractive one, that is what matters to spomsors.  I wouldn't waste to much time and energy worrying about who makes the kit, its just a name on the kit at the end of the day, its the team that plays in it that really counts.

I know I will get heckled for this post as it will be seen as a slight against your team, and most probably the post will be removed, I am however just stating the facts as i see them.

(As a rider I would add that England as a brand suffer from their fans ruining any good work the team do on the pitch, so before you cut me down I would admit we are far from perfect!)
