No, I am led to believe that after the third goal went in some of the Coveys boys started on a rampage.
You just don't get riots nowadays do you. Whatever happened to inner city rage?

Good idea -
It's a shame that most people are only recognised once they have died.
When did he die?????????????????
I think he died in Argentina
as the man he was,
you could see him aging before yer eyes in the dug oot but he did manage tae dae which no one has done since
he inspired a national tae believe that it was possible, and in reallity we should have, could have done it maybe the players didn't believe in themselves
the way the nation did,
I think it is time to give him something back,
even if it is only his self respect.

always believed that if we got to the second phase we could have a right good run, whats wrong with self belief? Oh thats right it's not in the Scottish psyche, Ally united a nation something that hasn't happened before or since, well done that man! So fuk it didn't go to plan it's only a fukin game of football, but Ally had the balls to stand up and say we can do this whats wrong with that? Yes failure hurts but remember how great a feeling it was to be unified.
It breaks my heart to see the man today with his illness and if a glass decanter is a small way of saying thanks then I will happily put a donation.

i think more than anything it would be good tae let him know that nobody holds any grudges against him for 78 and that we respect him for standing up and putting his vision/belief in the public eye - a very brave thing to do indeed!

It's time to dispel the myths about 1978. I remember exactly what happened - and I can assure you all that it was my fault...
The whole hype surrounding Argentina briefly rekindled my fathers interest in football which meant I sat with him watching how the Peru and Iran debacles reduced him to a broken and angry man. He said it was all his fault - 'cos Scotland were always cr@p when he watched.
Then came the Holland match. He was drunk and asleep on the couch and I watched it myself in an increasing air of fever pitch. When our third goal went in I let myself believe the impossible was going to happen and woke my father up so he could see it happening for himself - just in time for Holland to score and end our chances of going through.
If I'd left the old goat sleeping we would have won the bl**dy thing. It was nothing to do with Ally Macleod.
Shangalang count me in...

We can't fit it in what with all the other "rages" which have come on stream since. Too many choices now you see..
Quite like MCT's idea of a donation to the Alzheimers charity. Also understand the idea of giving the man something, so maybe it makes sense that any additional money collected go to this cause.

Something to say |
Mick, I was 15 at the time, but remember following Scotland with pride at this time. There was never another time that IO can recall that we all felt so good about ourselves, maybe even as a nation.
Ally Macleod did'nt force Willie Bud Johnston to take drugs, he also did not encourage Don Masson to lie and Lou Macari to tell all to the press. The players let him down generally, he probably did four major things wrong
1) Tried to deal with too much himself, no delegation
2) Picked Alan Rough instead of the inform Jim Blyth
3)Did not take Andy Gray to the finals when he was on fire in England that season and instead he took Joe Harper, who did not even play.
4) Did not give Derek Johnstone a game when he had had a brilliant season for the treble winning Rangers side scoring an unprecedented amount of goals.
5)Played Rioch and Masson who were out of form as he was being loyal to the players who helped us qualify, when he should have played Archie Gemmill and Souness(V Holland he did)
The buck stopped with Ally, but a whole load of other let him down badly, and that should not be forgotten.

Reeky, as the donations are going to come from the folks on this board, I would say the TAMB would be your answer, we cant claim to fully represent the Tartan Army and we are not ATAC though many of us are linked to them via supporters clubs.
heres me and mr shangalang thinkin this would be an easy thing to organise

Cant believe this...........
I think its a great idea, so i am posting so, and my pound is on its way.
IF YOU DONT LIKE THE IDEA THEN LEAVE THE THREAD ALONE.
I just hope none of Allys relations are reading this.
Also, for what its worth, MNC and mr shangalang should present it to Ally or his family and i agree with Lamia, that if there is anything left it should go to the Alzheimers charity.
Welll done fellas.

Is there a difference? Why can't it just be from the Scotland support?

As I said on another thread, why not treat Ally and his missus to a game at Hampden, including the pre-match visit to Pandoras. Imagine the reception he would get...
