From today's Herald
"As a spectacle the match in a pressure cooker atmosphere in the Millenium stadium, which had its roof closed, was football in the raw. For all their silky skills and class the Italians had to scrap for every ball, especialy after the Welsh took a 12th minute lead through Simon Davies of Spurs with a fine goal carved out by Craig Bellamy down the right hand side.
The game had been stage managed superbly before hand by the Welsh FA with events designed to whip the crowd into a frenzy and they could show the SFA a thing or two about cooking up an atmosphere.
The Manic Street Preachers did a few songs, the legendary John Charles took a bow and the tenor Bryn Terfel sang the Welsh national anthem.
Even Tom Jones turning up himself wouldn't have made a better job than 70,000 people singing Delilah from the words on the giant screens at various stages during the evening.
Also charging adults only £10 to get in and £5 for a child ensured the pricing policy for such an important European qualifying game against such big name opposition was always going to draw the crowd."
Although I am confident that we can fill Hampden for the German game it was to the detriment of our chances in the 2002 world cup campaign that we were short of a full house against both Belgium and Croatia.
Replace the Manic Street Preachers with the Proclaimers (live) and adopt the Welsh pricing policy and there you have it a full house for all home games...even perhaps against Iceland in March

i'm sure the SFA could do this for every game.
(1) Bring in a famous Scottish band - Proclaimers, Travis, Primal Scream, Deacon Blue.
(2) Get some big screens for a huge karaoke event with all the tunes that have been suggested before.
(3) Bring out Scottish legends which we have a mass of.
Then the atmosphere can be jumping and the TA can intimidate the opposition for 90mins and make them shit themselves. After 90 mins 3-1 to Scotland against Germany!

Bring in a decent Scottish band - Primal Scream or Teenage Fanclub.
A bounce before the game to Rocks, Miss Lucifer etc would get everyone going.

What has to be particularly encouraging to us Scots about the whole Cardiff scenario was that not more than a couple of years ago the Welsh were considered a minnow in world football and their crowds were very poor. Look at them go now C'MON BERTI and the boys we can do like the Welsh and prove to the world once again that we are a football nation to be feared and the Hampden roar will return once more

It thought it was quite good. †Especially the line 'In every hick town in Caledonia, across this pseudo-nation, you can catch the most f****d up sc*m ever sh*t into creation, where a blue McEwans Lager top equals no imagination, you're HUNbelievable'
Sums up the average glory hunting old firm fan in Scotland to me.
and I can't remember them slagging the Tartan Army.

All great ideas but I feel that the overriding factor in filling Hampden v Iceland will be the pricong structure for the tickets. Perhaps we should follow the welsh FA and charge all adults £10 and all concessions at £5
