Something to say |
from the SFA website
The SFA has confirmed another attractive home fixture for the Scotland football team, which will face Canada at Easter Road Stadium, Edinburgh, on Tuesday 15 October (kick-off 8.00 pm).
The Safeway International Challenge Match against Canada follows immediately after Scotland's crucial away Euro 2004 qualifier against Iceland on 12 October. It is the first Scotland match in Edinburgh for over four years, the last being Scotland's 3-2 victory over Estonia in October 1998, at Tynecastle.
With no further competitive matches until March, Scotland coach Berti Vogts will use the opportunity to extend the international experience of his side. He is also planning friendlies in November and February and said: "I need to use every international date to develop the team, especially for the young players who will take Scotland to the finals in 2004, 2006 and 2008."
The Canadian team will probably include several players well known to Scottish football fans, such as Jason de Vos (formerly Dundee United), Kevin McKenna (Hearts), Nick Dasovic (ex St Johnstone) and Davide Xausa (Livingston).
Meanwhile, Berti Vogts will name his first competitive squad next Monday, 12 August, at 11 am. The players selected will face not only Denmark at Hampden on 21 August, but also the Faroe Islands on 7 September, in the first Euro 2004 qualifier.
Does anyone know who we will be playing in Nov & Feb and whether they'll be at home or away?

Ideal - back from Iceland on the Sunday, sleep on the Monday (well, ok, go to work, then sleep!), another gemme on the Tuesday. An' it's at Easter Road too - so should be able to get to the pub quite quickly after work.

As Willfae said more games mean more ranking points, glad to see Bertie and David Taylor are now getting all International dates booked up, makes a nice change, I felt under Craigie that he knuckled down to the old firm by relaxing his perogative on International dates and when he expected a pay back he got heehaw. However I reckon that after Iceland away he will let a few of the "star" players withdraw so that he can give experience to some of the fringe players.
Anyway Im delighted.
Bearing in mind our ranking at present is 51st or 52nd what would you guys think is a realistic figure that Bertie could achieve over the next 12 months?
I would like to think that we could get back up to 25th to 30th

Will,
in June '95 Scotland were 21st in the rankings and our southern friends were 22nd.
Its pretty much gone tits up since then.
In 2000 were started off at 20 and finished at 25th.
In 2001 we started off at 25 and finished 50th
For info, we are currently JOINT 55th with Georgia, behind such world powers as Iran, Slovenia and the Ivory Coast.
Oh and incidently, were are also behind ICELAND who are 53rd!!!!!
Will be great to go in as underdogs against them in October
