Fair play to you Mad H, but our dislike of england is the same as your dislike for the French/Germans/Argentinians (delete as appropriate) you like to see them lose due to old rivalries. We like to see england lose for the same reason. Infact if you think about it we have more reason to dislike england than you have to dislike those countries i have already listed. Oh you can probably add italy to that after some of the comments i heard in the pub yesterday!

Well said Mick, maybe Mirza can sort it out.
I'm a cross between annoyed and amused myself by the amount of people at work down the pub who can't understand why I'm not supporting England.
I thought one person here was going to start crying when I said I wouldn't support them.
bless them, everyone just wants to be loved really
and the amount of people who keep telling me I'm English, is getting very tedious.
For madh's benefit ,although being born in England and have lived here most of my life I support Scotland, because I got my passion for football from my scottish father, I've also regarded myself as Scottish and have always supported Scotland, and I always will.
For me personally after being at wembley 1999 and witnessing some of the reaction against us,and had to listen to that F***king band (had ticket for the England end), for the whole match, I think it may take a long time for me to get over that.
Whats making it harder and harder is being made to feel if I dont support England I am somehow pathetic or sad.
Sorry but in the words of Ian Black,it's genetic I just can't help it.
and madh,if you really believe that we support your opponents more than we support Scotland your even further off the mark than I thought.
Personally I dont really care too much what happens to England, christ I have the choice to support them if I want.
I just dont feel anything for them so whats the point.
The point is in the word support ,and for us it means getting to support as many games as we can and cheering on the team, I have no desire to EVER spend my money on an England shirt or go and watch them play.
sorry mum
p.s a good start in getting people to support England (if your so desperate to gain our support), would be to either get rid of that F***king awful band or teach them some new tunes that dont reek of empire or WWII.
time to get some up to date songs I think.
THEY ARE DOING MY HEAD IN!!!!!!
madh - just read you last post and fair enough, keep posting your side of things but I hope by coming here you may gain a new insight into things.
it is after all a game of football.

"I hope by coming here you may gain a new insight into things. it is after all a game of football." - that's the idea.
I'm not desperate to gain anyones support, I don't think anyone should support England if they don't naturally want to (although I do like to see the support we have in Japan and Korea). I'm only really talking about the negative support rather than that you should actually support England. Friendly rivalry in football is a good thing, the only time I don't agree with it is if people wouldn't get on with someone just because they are a supporter of a certain team, which some - not all - of the messages on here seem to imply, burning/steeling flags etc.

madH,
welcome to the board!
That makes three reasonable, open minded English posters on the Board - you're in good company with Kernaghan and CUFC.

Are you OK?
If you read the thread properly you would see I wasn't trying to get you to support Engalnd as other people have realised, and have admitted rivalry to an extent is a good thing. Also, England actually have a huge amount of support around the world, so you're wrong there as well.

MadH - got no probs with you on here if your here to have a debate and not have just a rant.
But for the record please read and don't forget - NONE of us support England's opponents more than we support Scotland.
I've spent thousands of pounds following Scotland all over the place over the years, as have thousands of others.
I've never spent a penny going to watch England play any other team than Scotland. I doubt if you'll find anyone on here that has.

I don't think I made it clear enough - I have taken back that comment. I was only referring to the proportion of anti-English posts on this board and do not seriously believe you would support anyone more than your own country. I said I know Scotland has great supporters and thought that would make it clear, but hopefully this settles it.

MadH,
Welcome to the board, you have passed the initiation test by asking such a fequently asked question (that quite frankly we are all sick to of answering) and defending your position instead of running off or diving in the hope of a penelty, which you would probably get any way
although on a more Scottish note....

listening to radio 5 for the game this morning and it was mentioned that korean fans will support any team that plays japan.
wonder how many jap fans try and contact the korean message board and bleat about the unfairness of it all.
pathetic isn,t it?

MadH (and anyone else who's interested),
A slightly different angle on the "come on guys, we support you so why don't you support us" debate.
Forget the why don't we support you part. In my experience the English don't support Scotland at all. You apparently get behind us and therefore on the odd occassion where we do get a noteworthy result you accept your share as you were behind us all the way. However, as soon as we get gubbed you revert to pish take mode as usual. Whether you fit into this bracket or not I don't know but I can assure you that the majority of your countrymen do.
That kind of supporet we can do without.

EXTREME MA ERSE, WE JUST DONT LIKE YOU...
Quote: from MadH on 1:39 pm on June 13, 2002
If Scotland were in the World cup most England supporters would wish them well (unless we were playing them), as we do for Ireland. Particularly if England were not in the cup I think we would support them (Scotland/Ireland) even more. Any Scottish fans here who do not want England to do badly? And anyone got a good reason why most/all of do? Of course there's rivalry, but it does seem pretty extreme.
