If Scotland were in the World cup most England supporters would wish them well (unless we were playing them), as we do for Ireland. Particularly if England were not in the cup I think we would support them (Scotland/Ireland) even more. Any Scottish fans here who do not want England to do badly? And anyone got a good reason why most/all of do? Of course there's rivalry, but it does seem pretty extreme.

MadH, you may find our views extreme but only because you are English and we are Scots. I would love to be able to spend the time to explain why we love to see the England team do badly but I'm on my tea break at work and have to get back to working in 10 minutes, not nearly enough time to do myself justice. Be aware that the vast majority of the people on this board DO NOT hate England or English people, we are not racist. We do however hate the jingoistic attitude of the English media, the constant references to 1966, Hand of God, Banks' greatest save ever, Michael Owen's goal, Pickles the dog etc etc etc. There hasn't been one match played in this year's competiton when they haven't mentioned one or more of the above. Very briefly, that's why we love to see your team get a doin'.

Does anyone think that Man City fans were disappointed to see their city neighbours get turfed out of the Champions League???
Does anyone think it would cut any ice with the City fans if the UTd fans said - "Oh but come on, we support you!"
Of course not.
The English are collectively confused about their English/British national identity, and think because we're all British they can support Scotland, and reciprocally the Scots should support England...
I am Scottish (praise the Lord), British (unfortunatley!), and European. Not English. Telling a Scotsman he should support England because he's British is like telling an Englishman he should support France because he's European.
This isn't a Scottish problem. Its an English one. You need to sort out your national identity. In the meantime support whoever you have to. I'm cheering Denmark on Saturday. Awrabest.

Exactly,
And geez, it's only the oldest football rivalry on the bloomin' planet! Also, wanting your rivals to do badly doesn't make you a racist/bigot either; doesn't that make you a fan? And by the way, lots of English fans honour the rivalry too!
I wonder if the Brazilians were upset at the early exit of their South American neighbours yesterday... Mmmm....

Just to make oor neighbours feel better about themselves, I would now like it to be noted that I want Paraguay and Turkey to be dumped out of the WC in the next round.

ah don`t know about anyone else, but i`m getting thoroughly p****d off with threads like this.
WHY !!!!!! should we have to explain ourselves to every e*****hman who comes on this board.
It is OUR board, for Scotland supporters and whatever our opinion about e*****d, whether these guys disagree with it, hate it or think were aw mental, it doesn`t matter a flying f**k, we`re entitled to that opinion and shouldn`t be questioned on it or feel we should have to reply or justify it.
It always ends up on the same road we have been down TOO many times before, AND IT JUST GETS SO BORING
as someone mentioned once before, can we not have a wee introductory message at the start of the board, telling folks what to expect and not to take it so seriously.
We`re just a bunch o` Scotland pals, having a laugh and a carry on ( most of the time )
If you don`t like what we say, then go away and find somethin else to do.
Ah think I need a hug now

I suppose it's just that English people don't need to spend all of our time hoping Scoltland do badly because we have our own matches to watch.
btw I never said it was racist, and a rivalry is a rivalry, I just think your support against England seems to be more passionate than your support for Scotland, which is pretty pathetic. I was happy to see Argentina go out, but I'd rather see England do well, and if they did win I wouldn't blame them for flying their flag.
Another point - we also hate most of the crap the media come out with.
Maybe the reason some English fans want Scotland to do well is because we always like the underdog!

Yeah, the English support of Scotland does feel a bit patronising.
And don't flatter yourself. We are all much more passionate about Scotland than we are about Englands opponents...
Maybe if England was ruled from Buenos Aires, your television was broadcast from Buenos Aires, and the entire media was dominated by Argentina supporters you would be much more enthusiastic about seeing them get beaten.

That would be pathetic like coming on here just to tell everyone how pathetic it is to support Englands opponents then.
You don't know any of the people who post here or have any idea how passionately they support Scotland. So drop this crap and have a look through some of the old threads and maybe you can actually be a worthwhile contributor.

I'm am actually trying to make a worthwhile contribution rather than just come on here with insults like some other English members.
My original post asking if anyone didn't want England to do badly was actually out of genuine interest.
I don't deny Scotland have very passionate supporters - when you make the world cup the fans do add some colour to the tornament and I would like to have at least seen Scotland there, all I was referring to is the proportion of anti-English posts on here.
Ally Macabre - fair point about TV and media. Though some of the posts about England flags are just bitter, know one can expect any country not to fly their flag during a World Cup.
There obvoiusly is an on going rivalry, but I think another reason some people want us to do badly is because some England fans give us all a bad reputation, where as most of us are actually passionate supporters willing to mix with other fans.
