Just thought I would put in a quick ad for the last issue of Haggis Supper. A bumper 40 page issue with an interview with Toimmy Burns, video reviews, top tips for travellers of the TA, a look back to Spain 82, a review of the women's team performances, ooh er missus, Scotland 2008 - what might have been, the internet fan and somebody having a go at this message board.
All yours for £1.25, cheques made payable to Haggis Supper from PO Box 28230, London, N21 1DO.

Something to do with none of the 1300 so called Scotland fans on the Tartan Army message board actually subscribing.
Its a real shame cos Kevin has put in a hell of a lot of work over the years with this publication.
If even just 5% of the board had bothered to subscribe I'm sure it would have kept going.
All for £1 an issue.
Most of you spent more than than on Internet call charges last night!

Note: All current subscribers are exempt from the above "dig"

I subscribe to the Haggis Supper. Maybe if somebody could put the details of how to do likewise on this board it might help. I subscribed through the link on t-army.com a while back.

I subscribe! is it just the fact that there are not enough subscribers, or does Kevin need more input into it?

aye me too. If there's a shortage of articles, I'm sure there's plenty willing scribes who would contribute articles on recent tours HK, France, Wales.
I'll be honest I didnae know HS existed until wee while ago but cheques in the post....

I put out a posting back on May 1st (see below) letting people know about the Haggis Supper. (Its now on page 22 of the General section)
Looks like its too little, too late!
Cheers,
Tam

Lads,
I noticed in the 'Tennents add' section that Mr Shangalang suggested a TA newspaper.
This, and other incarnations have been suggested on here before.
For those of you who don't know, there is ALREADY a Tartan Army publication, the Tartan Army Fanzine called the HAGGIS SUPPER.
Kevin "cheery" Donnelly, from Lunnainn Albannaich (London Scots) TA club has been running this fanzine for years.
He is always looking for new contributors for articles and letters etc, and the great banter on this board and the obvious journalistic tendancies of some board members, would be welcome in the next issue.
I'm not on commission here, but Kevin has done a brilliant joab keeping the Haggis Supper going and would hate to see someone try and re-invent the wheel by putting something else oot there, when any contributions would be very welcome.
Thank goad the Haggis Supper does not have to worry about being a Politically correct monster, there have been some belters of letters and articles.
All I'm saying is if you have something to say and you want it printed, speak to Kevin and keep the Haggis Supper going strong.
Its out 5/6 times a year, depending on matches and contributors and only costs a quid.
You can get more info at Scott Kelly's TA pages:
https://t-army.com/tar_hsp.html
And Kevin can be contacted at:
kgd99@hotmail.com
Thanks for listening and hope to see yer article in the next issue.
It might even put a smile on Kevin's face :-)
All the best,
Tam

Not got the new issue yet (- hope my subscription's not run out without me being warned. I'm not organised enough to know when it'll expire myself).

Thanks for all the messages of support but it is still closing down. Any subscribers who are owed money will get a refund cheque with the new issue which should arrive tomorrow. Randers, email me with your real name and I will be able to tell you the state of your subscription.
As Tam has pointed out there has been a fair amount of plugging of the fanzine on this board and to be perfectly honest, the interest has been zero.
So thanks to Tam and Ian L for the plugs but thats all folks, sorry fowks:-)

I am a subscriber to the HAGGIS SUPPER.
Please don't let this be the last.
I am one of the exiled scots now residing south of the border (for my sins) and the Haggis Supper brings me great joy when i open the mail and find the latest issue.
Surely something can be done to keep it going.
Come on you who are not subscribers, pay-up and let's keep this wee bit of magic going.

Tam, I only found oot about HS when you posted and this has been first opportunity to do something aboot it and buy it.
Kevin, is there no way of maybe passing it over to someone else as a going concern. As Tam said, this board has 1300+ members. I cant speak for everyone but I am pretty sure that there are people on the board who would be interested in contributing and maybe running it on a collective basis.
An idea: the Haggis Supper could be the official fanzine of the TAMB.
Is there anyway this might be possible kevin? and if so, would you stay on as editor - it is your creation after all!

it already is the fanzine of the TAMB! and the rest of the Tartan Army!!!!!
Maybe a better way of getting rid of a few more copies is have more people selling it on match days. Is this possible? I have only ever seen it for sale once in all the games I been to. Fanzines do tend to be more of a spontanious purchase than most football related magazines and programmes IMHO.

I mibbae didnae make my point that clear WFS, what I was saying is that if kevin has decided to pack it in, then members of the TAMB could maybe relaunch it with his blessing/assistance.
I think the best way to shift more copies is for folk to send him the dosh and buy it. Folk who havent bought it before shouldnt be made to feel guilty about it - no accusations being made here I should add, I only heard about it myself a few weeks ago.
Hopefully TAMBers will buy the latest issue and maybe this might lead to a change of heart from kevin (he might sh!te himself when 1300 requests come through the post!). If not, then hopefully Haggis Supper: The Second Coming???? (apologies to Stone Roses and er Jesus!)

I hope you have a change of heart of Roy Keane/Mick McCarthy proportions Kevin.
I subscribe and as has been said did try to plug the last issue.
Anyway I'll look forward to the next issue and just hope its not the last.
Rather than the TAMB being involved why not ask the travel club if they'd mind putting in a flyer in the mail out for say Denmark home ticket applications for suscribers.
Maybe if enough STC members e.mail requesting that they do that they will?.
It'll be a sad day if we end up with no fanzine whatsoever.
or is this just an attempt to make all the back issues extremely valuable and collectable (which Im sure they will be ) ???

Haggis Supper may enjoy a hard core support, but the reality is that when it comes to the crunch, getting punters to part with even a quid is surprisingly difficult - who said the Scots were tight?!
The problem with selling outside a game is that you need a number of sellers to make any impact and folks are normally in the pub until the last minute. Possibly including Kevin himself! Then you get the "I've got no-where to put it" excuses.
It's like when a film star pops their clogs - every one looks back with damp eyes and rose-tinted specs, wishing there was something to be done.
However I understand the rights will soon be auctioned on ebay, starting price £2,000.........

I have to admit that I first heard about when I started on the TAMB last year and have not got my ar*e into gear to buy it yet :guilty:
I'll be sending off for a copy and am sorry to hear it will be the last.
I'll be happy to pay over the RRP and if this is also supported by others like me (i.e. Haggis Supper virgins) then this might help the funding for what would hopefully be future publications.
Would it help publicise it and increase circulation if the price increased and certain % going to Sunshine Appeal
e.g. £2 and £1 (or 75p) going to Sunshie Appeal ?
We are all very willing to help and donate for the appeal so why not combine the two and it might benefit both "causes".
More publicity, increased sales, increase the appeal fund all in one go ?
