Still think the nordic bid is gonna be too problematic..... they will have at least three maybe four currencies... Danes said no to the Euro i believe, Finland are EU but i dunno if they have the Euro, and at least one of the other two isnt in the EU! Plus your likely to clock up a hell of a lot of miles between games. On the plus side, the women are lovely

Just read on teletext that Of the 14 seat committee, only 9 are eligable to vote as countries bidding arent allowed to! so that means we only need 5 If england are in there then we can pretty much count on their vote (seeing as we "officially" backed theirs). Whose on this committee??

Aye, if this committee does its job in proper way then - Scotland/Ireland should get it! Therefore, the chances of the main three should be:
Sco/Eir 70%
Nordic 15%
Swiss 15%
It's time - SCOTLAND 20:08!

I think we should try and remember Hungary too, they'v tried for it before and failed so fifa might give them the chance, but i'd say we have a 50 percent chance of getting it, it's between us and aus/swiss i say,
here is the 14 important people from the sun today..
1.Lennart Johnasson(SWEDEN)
2.Senes Erzik(TURKEY)
3.Per Ravn Omdal(NORWAY)
4.Angel Maria Villar Llona(SPAIN)
5.Geoff Thompson(ENGLAND)
6.Dr Mathieu Sprengers(HOLLAND)
7.Dr Viachceslav Koloskov(RUSSIA)
8.Marios Lefkaritis(CYPRUS)
9.Eggert Magnusson(ICELAND)
10.Gerhard Mayer-Volfelder(GERMANY)
11.Dr Joseph Mifsud(MALTA)
12.Michel Platini(FRANCE)
13.Giangiorgio Spiess(SWTIZERLAND)
14.Henri Roemer(LUXEMBOURG)
Just looking at that list though, do sweden, and norway get to vote cos that's not really fair as they'll probarly vote for the nordic big and possibly Iceland will too. but if we are on best behvaiour they might like us, so be good in iceland later this year folks, hehe . i dunno it should be interesting though what happens.

Hopefully, we'd get the Dutch vote, so seems to me that Berti should organise a few friendly away matches in Luxembourg and Malta.

Irish fans were voted 'Best at the WC'! That can only help.
I think we have a great chance.

Much as hate to say it i think we have no chance whatsoever of hosting this tournament.
We have the best bid of that there is no doubt, the facts are ther for all to see.
However the politics surrounding the Swiss/Austria bid will surely ensure that although Uefa will make a lot of noises about how close things are, the Swiss/Austrian bid will come out on top.
I really hope i am wrong about this but i simply cannot see it happening

MOMO - wrong answer.
The more I see of it the more I'm wae Casegrande, we can win this bid and it will be fantastic for both our countries when we do. We're up in a straight fight wae the Austro-Swiss bid, naebody else (including the Norders Effort) has a chance.
C'mon!!!

I think 60% which is a big improvement on 4 months ago when I thought 10%. A solo bid would have been 95% IMO.
But 60% would still make us favourites

I think since the World Cup our chances have got better.
The only thing that concerns me a wee bit is if it does happen the emphasis will be more on Ireland than Scotland and it might be seen as Ireland 2008. But that's a minor gripe

I'm no sure about this one lads. Ma heart wants Scotland tae get it. Only major worry is that the heid honcho's who gave us the champions league final will decide that's it for us and go wi the Swiss/Austrians? However, looking on the other side they might just decide after Germany has the WC in 2006 that the EC shouldny be on mainland Europe.....

I still wouldnt count out the Nordic bid while Lennart Johannsson still has his grubby wee hands in the mixing pot!
But going by practicality and merit, it should be a two horse race between us and Austria/switzerland. Scary thing is i can see the Greece/Turkey bid being successful all due to political reasons (bit like Japan/korea)..... Not the closest of friends so Uefa will give it to them to try and make them kiss and make up!

However, WillfaeSwindon Greece/Turkey's fans have a very bad reputation which may sway it in our favour. Also don't forget Scandinavia has hosted the Championship before in 1992 when Sweden were the hosts where as we have never hosted such a Championship.
I think Austria/Switzerland bid is the danger.Fingers crossed though we might just edge it.

Just finished reading the summary of our bid for 2008.
Its quite brilliant and i think everyone concerned has got it just about right.
I really dont know how much more can be done to get this show on the road so i suppose its up to the powers that be (Uefa) to decide what is going to happen.
HerE's hoping they use some common sense and give us all the decision that everybody wants.
Gut feeling still makes me think that politics may dictate otherwise i am afraid to say. Fingers crossed time as they say!

Something to say |
I put our chances at 40% I think its between us and Aut/Swi. The decision by UEFA to bar votes fro delgates whse countries are bidding has put paid to the Nordic bid. Given the close links between ourselves and the germans (remember it was David Will's vote & the vote of a scottish guy form New Zealand which got them 2006) we may well get their vote too. Platini will go with the Aut/Swi bid, we may get the 2nd preference of the Cypriot after Greece & Turkey go out. DOnt know about the rest. WOudl be good to get a private indication from the SFA of where they think the votes are going at the moment - anyone know anyone ?

I think we are 50/50 with the skiers.
Austria have applied twice and failed, this may sway as much as the fact UEFA has so close links with the Swiss.
The Ireland game next year will be some party if we get it!

Spoke to someone recently who was heavily involved on the PR side of E*****d's failed WC 2006 bid. The reason they failed was the fact the FA had treated other federations with contempt and arrogance over the years.
If neither the SFA or the FAI have done this then we could be on a winner.
I think we are almost certs for it.... The passion of the 2 countries fans willalmost singlr handedly swing it in our favour. I know the Austria/Swiss bid is too close to HQ for comfort, but I just feel the other Federations will want to experience the full Scottish/Irish hospitality in 6 years time.
85% and rising...
