Lads,
Here is the answer to your question(s) re:jumping back and forth over the Irish sea for matches from John Henderson at the SFA.

Cheers,
Tam

Thank you for drawing this exchange to my attention. We propose to run the tournament on the basis that for each group the same 2 stadiums are used. Therefore in Ireland letsc assume the stadiums are Stadium Ireland and Lansdowne Road.Four teams, one of which will be Ireland play their games at these grounds. The last 2 games must be played at the same time. The police in Ireland and Scotland are aware of this and can deal with it.As Ireland get a quarter final the winners of the Ireland Group stay in Ireland with the runners up from a Scottish based group going to Ireland. The winners of this Quarterfinal stay in Ireland with a winner of one of the Scottish Quarterfinals travelling to Ireland for the Irish Semi-final.The winners of that then travel to Hampden for the final.
Clearly their has to be some travel of teams and fans between Scotland and Ireland.I think the ease of air travel makes this reasonably straightforward. The distances involved are much less than say between Japan and Korea in the World Cup.It should also be remembered that it is around 1000kilometres between Vienna and Geneva.A four country bid such as that of the Nordics would also involve considerable travel.A further factor in our favour is that travel within Scotland between groups is over short distances.
John

So the Polis dinnae have a problem wae it. That does surprise me given that neither Dundee clubs can play at home at the same time (ok - they're on the same street) nor can the Embra yins precisely because of Polis concerns, but if it's been looked into and the polis have okayed it then fine.

I suppose for Euro2008 they make exceptions.
Good to know that we aren't still at the drawing board stage, though. Hopefully the 2008 website will be updated soon.

I think for the group stages they'll be worse off than us in that Vienna is 4hours by train away from Klagenfurt and Salzburg but all the other venues are within around 2hrs of each other and I suspect their polis won't cope with 2 games in one city, so some fans would have to travel. They've only got 2 stadiums just now, but they're all under construction/planning and due to finish in the next 2/3 years.
But with 8 venues they're probably gaunnae have an easier case re. accommodation. 12,500 hotel beds in glasgow, I'm sure a UEFA requirement was something like 10000 within 1 hour of the venue.

Anyone got any figures on that?
