Any tips on where to stay, things to see, pubs to drink in would be appreciated. I am going mid August for a couple of nights but nothing booked up as yet
Cheers

Ive stayed in a few hotels in Oban on business, the Kings Knoll is a nice family run Hotel, just on the wee bend as you come into Oban from the Tyndrum road. Archie is the guy's name and it is a nice friendly place. - sory i dont know prices as i dont pay
Plenty of wee pubs in and around town, there is a real touristy feel to the town at this time of year. It is also one of the busiest places with tourists as this is the main gateway to Mull and Iona, which if you have time - go and do.
If you are driving, there is good driving in and around oban, the North route towards Fort William or to the South towards the Bridge over the Atantic to the island of seil ( i think).
McCaigs tower is worth a wee walk to, for the views across the harbour and beyond
Oban is a great wee place for a couple of days relaxing and chilling around town or as a gateway point to further afield.

Oban is a relly nice place to go to, you can go on a boat trip to Mull, but more importantly you must go to the Oban Inn because it has the best jukebox i have ever seen.

Was in Oban two or three weeks ago for a week. We stayed a couple of miles outside the town though, in a self-catering chalet right next to a loch.
The town is always absolutely hoaching with people, loads of shops, although some are just tourist tat ones selling the same old stuff. Also a really good leisure centre if the weather goes wrong, with tennis courts etc. Nightlife looked lively. As SS mentioned, McCaig's tower is worth a visit, even just to see the view from the top. You don't need to walk if you're a lazy bastard as there's a road right up to it and parking.
We went to Glencoe while we were there as well, which isnae too far away. Also stopped off at Inveraray on the way home, and did the jail tour.

When i was in school went to Iona/Oban every year for 5 years really nice place.
As ww said go to McCaigs Foley (tower).
If you get chance to go to Iona go it is really nice we stayed in Iona a few of the times we went and went walk round the island has a really nice sandy beach & pebble beach is right round other side of island.
Wee story from Iona because went with School we were playing all these daft games with a parachute as 1 of the activity type thingies me & a few others were playing with ball and hit it off the parachute somebody came out & had hissy fit kicked ball in water.
Not content with spending 5 days without a football i decided to take my socks & trainers off roll up my trousers & go after the ball so i ran in (baywatch tune ringing in my head) to rescue this size 4 mitre ball got in water went straight under came back up just turned round teachers & pupils laughing at me. Had to walk a mile in shorts & a fleece was bloody freezing.
