We flew with Austrian Air from Heathrow to Vienna to Sarajevo, their UK agent is DER in London 0207 408 0111.

They got us a good deal when we went for the game in 99.

No doubt Mirza will know the lastest on getting there.

Nightmare flight costs.

We got a package deal (ie 60+ TA on a flight). £230 if i remember correctly. expect to pay £400-£500. I think the cheapest we got quoted was £480.

Hotels are very expensive. We used Hotel Bosnia.
The hotels need the money tell them how much you want to pay per night.

The room rate at Hotel Bosnia was £70 per night they took £30!! including breakfast.

If you can afford it stay in the holiday Inn, it was not well situated for the pubs but it is a wee bit famous due to the war.

No doubt Mirza will help out but he is travelling to Scotland as we speak!!!!!

I am due to see him I will tell him to post!!

Hi Syd,

Hope this is not to late:

- I think the problem is that they all have some kind of agreement and keep prices high, if you fly directly to Sarajevo.

- the cheapest option is to fly Ryanair to Graz (for 100-120 euros, reurn) and from there to catch an overnight bus to Sarajevo (for 50 euros, return).

- good way might be Split as there are some season charter flights from the UK, I think. Then you take a bus for 30 euros, return).

- alternatively, if you fly to Zagreb then return bus ticket is 40 euros (3 buses daily)

- if you find yourself in Belgrade, airticket costs 75 euros (return) or bus ticket is 20 euros (return, a very long journey)

- as for accomodation, forget hotels (too expensive - value/money). find some guest house e.g. http://www.halvat.com.ba or similar

Hope this helps.

Should have said earlier Syd but two years ago I did Ryanair to Frankfurt (£29 return, from Glasgow Prestwick) then overnight bus from Frankfurt to Split in Croatia (not much, cannae mind exactly what though). The company I used also had a daily return service to Sarajevo. You just buy your ticket at the station.

Alternatively, I've just read that there are now scheduled flights from Inverness to Dubrovnik. Don't know where you're based but it might be worth a thought.

The good thing about the bus is that there are two drivers. When one's not at the wheel he looks after a seemingly unlimited supply of beer, which is kept in a fridge at the front. As soon as your bottle nears empty he replaces it, and charges you about 50p for the privilege. I'm delighted to say my bus was delayed in Munich for about three hours. It was superb.
