as a mad Patriot, and a mad football fan, I for the last few years have always wanted to travel with the Tartan Army abroad to overseas games, but the thing is, i don't know how to join a tartan army club or how to go about travelling and accomodation abroad,
I know how to get ticket, once my passport arrives to me from the passport office i will send away my form.
but its travel etc, I only work in McDonalds for £300 a month, and my parents would be willing to give me money sometimes for trips, so prices for travel have to be cheap :s
As my mates are not great followers of the National team, one is a wee bigoted prick who winds me up on scotland, he was one of those dafties who bought the england top, but he shuts up when i tell him to F/off to england, haha. but I would have to travel to games myself or with my dad if he can get money or if one of my friends suprises me.
Cheers

Stick to the cheap games like France, Belgium, Germany - somewhere easy to get to.
You'll find most people don't travel with TA's and just make their own way across!
Good luck - and don't wear club colours!

Richie, I'm in the same boat as you, I've got a couple of pals who would go to home games but I don't know if any would be bothered to go abroad. I've more or less conceded that I probably won't be going to Iceland, The Faroes, or Lithuania but I'm desperate to go to Germany. There was a discussion a couple of weeks ago about the possibility of a 'Young TA' trip to the Germany game via Amsterdam as there are a few of of us youngins interested. Anyway, I think there's the possibility of meeting up at the Denmark game, so if you're interested message me. The trip to Germany looks like it could be reasonably priced with cheap flights to Amsterdam and the train to Dortmund. Anyway, let me know if you're interested.

There will be plenty of people travelling from your locations. You may have to travel to the airport or train station on yer ane but once ye get there you'll soon meet up wi' other footsoldiers.
As long as you listen and learn on yer first trip you'll get tae know the TA way an' ye'll have a great time.
There's plenty of us in the same boat as far as being skint goes. That's one good reason for reading this board - there will be loads of people posting ways of doing trips as cheap as possible.
And, as you've already seen, there will be invitations to meet up and travel together. Though like I said - this happens naturally.
One other thing - if you do persuade yer dad or any of yer mates to go on a trip they will DEFINITELY NOT regret it.
Honestly, it only takes one trip tae catch the bug. But be prepared tae spend the rest of yer life trying tae get tae as many games as posssible!!
Car?..........House??...............Food??? Who needs them when ye can travel wi' the TA.
Richie - yer most welcome. Enjoy yer time in the TA!

I'm very up for germany, in fact, count me in, the young TA sounds good to me, and i'm more than up for it for meeting up at the Denmark game!

Richie, if you're a bit tight on cash, probably best not to think about Iceland or the Faeroes. I'm having to sell my car and my dog to get to Iceland.
Part of the experience it seems is getting to the game. There are ways and means of doing things cheaply. And there'll always be people to hook up with if your friends aren't into Scotland games.
Have you read the book 'Tales of the Tartan Army'? It might give you an idea what to expect. (Not that I can talk from personal experience, though. YET!)

Richie. Germany would be a good start. I'm booked up for the Faroes but it's gonna cost a bomb!!
It doesn't matter if you're going on your own coz we're all just friends you've never met before. You'll talk to anybody!!!
A wee word of warning though. Start saving because once you go to your first away game you'll just want to keep going coz it's just that damn good.
Good luck!

My first TA trip was Brussels last year and I doubt I could have picked a better one to begin with. After that, I was hooked, there was no question of missing Paris. On your first trip or two, listen a lot, observe how folk conduct themselves and you'll have a ball. Once you've been on one TA trip, you'll very easily become addicted. And dont worry about having people to go with, just find the nearest boozer and you find someone to chat to.

Richie, heartwarming story, yours, reminds me of myself when I was younger.
No-one's rolling in it when they're not long out of school, I certainly wasn't. And just when I was starting to earn better, I found I was to become a dad (the best thing ever to happen to me, don't get me wrong) and so it was still difficult to get to games, especially away from home, what with paying maintenance and treating the wee man before looking after yourself.
So it's only been a few years since I started going on most away trips (I still don't get to all, more due to the lack of available holiday time than money these days). The point I'm making is I can well understand the impatience to get in amongst it all, and as some others have stated, the Germany game looks a good bet for a reasonably priced trip. But whenever you can't make it, don't worry, there'll always be football, always be Scotland and always be the TA. We're not going to disappear (except temporarily to wherever the boys are playing) and we'll still be here when you can make it. You can use the TA to your benefit, it certainly helped me focus on getting on in my career, the knowledge that I would be able to get to more games if I was promoted and better paid, etc, the prospect can help you too.
All the best with what you're doing, and I hope to have a good drink with you somewhere soon. Incidentally, the Lithuania trip can be done for £269, including flights and 3 nights accomodation. What with the cheap beer (35p a pint, apparently) thatmight even be more reasonable than Germany all in. Just a thought.
Awra best

£269??? very cheap indeed!
When is the LTU game anyway? I could well try my best to get there!
Looking at your nickname, it says yer fae Corby, If i'm right, that's in England, my mae Sam Gifford was born there and has just moved back there, so will that price be fae LHR or LGW? or is it fae Scotland?
Is there going to be any TA Charters to LTU? If the price is good enough, i'm up for it!
Cheers
Richard Duncan
p.s: I'll save up like f**k to go to all away games! God Bless the TA!

Lithuania away is Wed, April 2nd 2003. Aye Corby is in England, near Leicester, but I moved away a year ago to South Yorkshire to be near my wee boy who lives by Doncaster wi' his maw (and it takes me 100 miles closer to the good Lord's bonny wee half acre).
I think from memory it was Gatwick, I haven't booked up yet (still waiting for my mates to confirm if they're coming or no'), but from memory it was the same from Glasgow. The boy who offered the trip did so by advertising on this board. I think you just log on to http://www.lithuanianholidays.co.uk and order a brouchure.
Cheers
