According to the Lonely Planet website, S Korea is approaching Japan in terms of cost of living.

Hotels are usually business class (ie expensive), particularly in Seoul, but a better bet may be Korean style inns.  Contact the KNTO (try google web search) and they'll send you a booklet.

Itaekwon and the area around one of the stations in Seoul are supposedly the best areas for nightlife.  Most tourists don't leave Seoul so it's difficult to get info on other areas.

The game will probably be played in Pusan (or Busan - spelling differs), this has an international airport but most flights head for Inch'on, 60 km west of Seoul.  Pusan is 5-7 hours from Seoul by train/bus.

According to several sources, flights are quite pricey, as there is a heavy demand on the return leg from Hong Kong.  Possible to try KLM via Amsterdam for Seoul.

Something to say

Does sound like a good idea, but I think it will just be the HK adventure for me.

Still waiting for confirmation of the games, but have flights from Aberdeen for £585 at the moment. Still looking for cheaper.

I'm going with Helen.  We booked our flights last week and confirmed within 30 mins of the squad announcement on Tuesday lunchtime.

We're flying from London, via HK on Mon 13/5, arr 14/5.  One night in Seoul or Incheon (where the international airport is) to recover from jet lag, then down to Busan.  2 nights in Busan, back to Seoul for a night and then into HK Sat 18/5.  Leaving HK 24/5 (well, after midnight, so technically 25th).

The main tourist area in Busan is called Haeundae.  It's known as the Korean Riveria and is very popular with Japanese tourists.

You obviously have a lot of questions.  Try http://english.tour2korea.com/, or even better, buy a copy of the Lonely Planet guide to Korea.

Incidentally, it's illegal to sell dog meat in Korea in a restaurant that has an English menu, and all the dog meat restaurants are backstreet affairs.  A plate costs £8-12 as it's classed as "health food".

Got the lonely planet today. I think it will be MCd's......I do not fancy the beer driven passion at 5am looking for something to eat.

this is going to be great!

My pet's coming with me... and she's the one who wants to eat dog

Seriously, I'm vegetarian (and have been for 11 years through personal choice, which is why I'm wasting away!!!), but I see no distinction between cow, pig, sheep, dog, cat etc... if you're going to eat meat then why not go the whole (hedge)hog?
